Junior achievement

Brayden created and painted sticks as musical instruments for his Nature STEM project.
In library, Mrs. Ganesan read us Eberykne Loves Cupcake, which is the new book by last year's visiting author, Kelly DiPucchio.  We enjoyed the new book!

Junior achievement continue this week with a focus on needs versus wants, as well as jobs, businesses, and entrepreneurs.

Apple raft challenge

Today we worked in teams. The challenge was to create a raft made out of sticks, tape and string that would float.  The raft also had to hold up an apple while floating. One team was successful and all the others had a lot of great teamwork and engineering skills. We discussed what to do differently next time to try to make it work. Check out some of our great work:

Sharing our STEM projects

Students have been sharing their family stem projects this week and it has been great fun to see what they have come up with!

Aliyah made a campsite with a little tent and a glowing campfire!

Ellie created a sundial at home and documented her work by taking pictures!

Olivia used to things found in nature to create a standing picture of her home.
Asha created a crane that has a moving scooper at the end to scoop water.

Addison created her own lacross stick from items found in nature.

Josey created a leaf bowl by shaping and gluing leaves around a blown up balloon then popped the ballon.
Rydan created a pond with a floating raft for leaf people.
Blake made a sailboat out of sticks!
Mia made a robot with items found in nature.

Great job first graders!  Look for October's family STEM challenge on Monday.

Fire safety practice and Junior Achievement

In Monday, we had a visit from Firefighter Debbie.  She brought the fire safety trailer and practiced feeling a hot door with the back of our hand and getting low under the smoke.
